Abstract
This thesis was comprehended by two main parts: on one side, an analysis of different perspectives on the modern realist short story, especially in America and Europe. A brief history of the short story was made from a personal catalogue of authors and based on certain stylistic aspects that helped in the evolution of the genre. This reasoning was based on specific personal lessons from each author and at the same time on their importance in the literary tradition. On the other side, a series of short realist everyday stories were constructed and that postulated a new vision of the city, romantic relationships and the phantasmagoria of humanity. At the same time, in the end of this second part, a concise reflection on the act of writing was exposed, as a poetic. Elements of structure and style were pointed out: rhythm, ellipsis, abrupt endings, bare and plain style and the creation of two main characters present in all the short stories, in an attempt of creating a structural unit.
