Simulation of Transport and Dispersion of Atmospheric Emissions from Navarro Solid Waste Dump Site, Cali (Colombia)Resumen
Abstract
Accelerated process of urban growthin Santiago de Cali, have led to settlementsin places that could pose athreat to the health of people livingin areas close to the Navarro finaldisposition site. The potential healthrisk would be present at the time thatsuch people are exposed to contaminantscoming from Navarro Dump.A first step in estimating health riskof this kind is to identify the routes oftransport and dispersive phenomenaof the pollutants of interest. In thissense, the purpose of this paper is topresent the results produced by themodel ISCST3 in the simulation ofthe transport routes and dispersionof emissions of benzene, toluene andxylene (BTX) from Navarro Dumpin its area of influence for the year2007. In doing so, meteorologicaldata from the year 2007 was used andthe theoretical emissions of BTX fromNavarro Dump were calculated withthe LANDGEM model. As a result, itwas found that the more susceptibleareas to exposure to BTX are thoselocated at the north from NavarroDump. However, these concentrationsdo not exceed the maximum permissiblelimits imposed by the Colombianauthorities and EPA.
