Abstract
I focus essentially on time and its relationship with the person who studies it. This
conception of time analyses it as inhabited by survivals; as an earthquake, which is studied by
the seismographer historian. My text is carried out in four moments. The first one is the
criticism of historicism; in the second moment I deal with the historical and temporal model of
survival that is composed of anachronisms, forgetfulness and returns. The third moment is the
pathology of the historian, where I show that the historian has a pathological, empathetic and
vital relationship with his work. In his life and in his work, the seismograph transmits the
forces of time that move him and under which he risks breaking. The last moment refers to the
Gay science and describes the ethical response to the psychopathological affection.
