Abstract
The goal of the present investigation was to design, implement and analyze a pedagogical proposal of picture book retelling as a way of building subjectivity in sick children and teenagers. In this investigation, the notion of book retelling involves the identification of the participants themselves with the different topics of the picture books as well as the characters in order to link it with their experiences and feelings. The investigation was conducted with sick elementary and high school students. It took place in the hospital classrooms of the Fundación Cardioinfantil in Bogotá, Colombia. The chosen methodology was the systematization of experiences. It involved analyzing information sources obtained from the workshops that were designed and implemented for this purpose, as well as the reflections of the teacher and the participants’ productions. With the results, it was possible to identify that the systematization of experiences contributes to the reflective practice of the teacher, as it led to adjustments in the teacher’s planning and reflections on what had been already implemented. Furthermore, it becomes clear that picture book retelling alludes to the narrations of the participants’ experiences and feelings, in which the tool that enables the construction of subjectivity is literary reading and the interaction between teacher and students. Although the construction of subjectivity was not evident at that time, one can conclude that literary workshops with children and teenagers within the context of the hospital allowed them to reinforce their experiences and gain a sense of empowerment. Thus, regardless of their health situation and the circumstances they might have had to go through in their lives, the participants managed to bring to light issues and feelings, that thanks to the reading of picture books and the conversations with the teacher, enables the construction of identities.
