Lorica was in its beginnings the most important commercial port of the country next to Cartagena. Thanks to its proximity to the river Sinu and therefore to the Atlantic, it quickly became an access route for all types of foreign manufactures. This caused that Lorica had influences of diverse cultures, like Arabs, Turks and especially Lebanese. It was so important that it came to compete with Montería as capital of the department of Cordoba. However, with the infrastructure network that sought to communicate the whole country, in the middle of the twentieth century concluded the route that would communicate the center of the country with the coast. The city began to develop around the road axis and little by little it was losing its tourist, cultural and patrimonial interest that previously had.
The main objective is to propose an urban renovation in the historical center of the city, where the idea is to preserve the heritage buildings, and recover the importance of its edge towards the river. The implementation of the Workshop School is vital as the idea is to function as a revitalizing building of the square of the historic center and the river, articulating both spaces.
On the other hand, as an architectural element the importance in its language is key and how this must rescue the character of the place. It proposes a building that is very open, not only from a functional point of view but also formal. The exterior facade of the spaces is very permeable and open to the public to function as an exhibition of their own culture.
