Abstract
The current environmental crisis that we are going through has awakened, in various societies, the need to do something to mitigate the damage caused to the earth. This interest has also been present in many men and women of the Church, who through the experience of their faith have promoted the generation of a spirituality around creation. However, the Church's Magisterium and theological thinking have said little about the care of our common home, or what they have said has always been emphasizing the superiority of man over other creatures of nature, which has justified, in in many cases, the exploitation of these by that. For these reasons, in the light of a careful analysis of the two Creation Stories of Genesis and of a text of concrete Christian spirituality, namely, Contemplation to achieve Love of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, we propose in this work a new approach to what has been said about the creation in the theological and magisterial fields of the Catholic Church. This new approach, proposed from the establishment of a relationship between the biblical texts of Genesis and the Ignatian text, allows us to speak of a new biblical-theological reflection on creation based on three elements: the communion to which the Creator calls the totality of the created oeuvre; the work of God and, consequently, the work of man for the maintenance of life in creation and the essential role of man, not as superior to other creatures, but as guarantor of the care of all created beings and protector of life that nests in creation. With these three elements, we hope to give a contribution in the advance of a new theological reflection on the creation that will enrich, in turn, the efforts that are being made from many areas to protect and respect our common home.
