The Ethics of Care as a Bioethical Foundation for the Family-Centred Care in Pediatric Intensive Care .
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit centralizes technology and specialized human resources. Once admitted, the child is separated from his parents and family whose natural care is supplanted by a cold and distant environment. As a consequence, they may suffer disturbances of the adaptation and reconstruction processes during and/or after the stay in the unit, a phenomenon called Pediatric Post Intensive Care Syndrome. The Family-Centred Care in Pediatric Intensive Care recognizes the essential role of the family in the process of restoring and preserving the health and well-being of children, thus mitigating the impact of the syndrome. Such a model of attention requires a moral theory that makes its implementation inevitable. Our goal is to propose the Ethics of Care for its foundation. Method: Qualitative documentary research. Result: We identify in Ethics of Care, its pillars: relationships and responsibility; its characteristics: dependence, situational specificity, privilege to emotional knowledge and acceptance of the indefinable. We recognize the dimensions of CIpCF: respect, communication, values and history, physical and emotional support, and flexibility. We find a coincidence between the two. Conclusions: The ethics of care can support Pediatric Family-Centred Intensive Care, through its concern for relationships between people and their concern for the responsibility, both represented in Mature Care Activity.
