Religious experience and sexual dimension overlooking the life of catholic subjects : an exploration from psychoanalisisrésumé
Abstrait
The present work seeks to explore the dimension of the Catholic religion and sexuality in subjects belonging to the Catholic creed in the light of psychoanalysis, for which the phenomenological method was used and through a semi-structured interview with four people: three women and one man. A psychoanalytic framework was used from Sigmund Freud as a central pillar of the concepts that go through this research and the analysis was developed in a triangular way, linking together the experiences lived by the four participants around their sexuality and religious experiences and psychoanalytic theory, without seeking to do an individual analysis of the participants, but a reading of what they are telling. In the results, there were different findings in relations among the subjects within their sexual and religious dimensions in their lives: on one hand, the relationship with God is described as a sense of protection and is expressed as a feeling of love. On the other hand, it was evident that the decision to live a life of chastity is not unconscious and it was found that there are different factors that lead to this decision. In addition, it was possible to observe a sublimatory redirection of sexual energy towards areas that have a great social and cultural value with an ethical background such as service and love for others.
