Walk the memory : stories about return in Chengue, Sucrerésumé
Abstrait
Chengue is a corregimiento of the municipality of Ovejas of the Montes de María region in Colombia, characterized by the deepening of the armed conflict. In this corregimiento was perpetrated, by the paramilitary group Bloque Héroes de Montes of the Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia (United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia), one of the cruelest massacres in this region, where 28 peasants were killed, which caused the immediate forced displacement of almost all of their population. However, the Chengue community is characterized by its resistance, resilience, and construction of peace. Therefore, in order to re-inhabit the territory, the victims must communicate with the institutional framework of the State, organize themselves collectively and create associations for the claim of rights, reparations, and political demands.
This research aims to problematize the role of collective memory in the return by asking: How the exercise of collective memory allows the resignification of the territory in order to make it habitable? I aim to respond to this question based on the construction of a conceptual framework and the characterization of the community. The first chapter corresponds to a conceptual framework that develops the four main concepts that guide research, which are: collective memory, identity, territory and return. The second chapter characterizes the memory and identity of the community and the territory after the massacre, based on the four fundamental concepts and the testimonies of the interviewees. Finally, the third chapter analyzes the exercise of collective memory by the Chengue community, which makes it possible to resignify the territory of return. In the end, the analytical conclusions of the investigation case are presented based on the four main concepts.
