Protection equipment KoteResumo
Abstract
It is proposed the development of a protection element that allows the reduction of the damage caused at the moment of impact to the hands and arms in case of blows with practice weapons, during the exercise of ninjutsu bujinkan, since these injuries prevent practitioners from continuing to practice and enjoy this. To achieve this, impact tests were carried out with polypropylene (PP), polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), polyurethane foam (PUR), and ethylvinylacetate foam (EVA). Using a bokken (wooden sword) which was dropped from a fixed height impacting the materials adhered to a container, using the Tracker video analysis tool, the amount of energy dissipated by each material was calculated, in addition the Tracker tool was used to define the areas that required greater protection. The symbolic and aesthetic aspects were developed through surveys, interviews, focus groups and brainstorming sessions with the practitioners, as well as exercises using thinking aloud protocol. It was possible to determine that the Kote protection equipment meets the protection needs thanks to the polypropylene (PP) plates and the ethylvinylacetate (EVA) foams shaped in such a way that the blows are deflected, in addition to supporting the defense techniques by allowing that the blows slide away from the practitioner's body. It is concluded that Kote would allow bujinkan ninjutsu practitioners to safely enjoy the practice with weapons, being a product that does not conflict with the symbolic elements of the practice, but it should be evaluated in greater detail if this reduces the fear of practicing with weapons of the practitioners since the participants in the tests have a level of experience within the martial art that allows them to face this practice without fear.
