Vindication and empowerment of the traditional housing system in the vernacular peasant housing of Angostura, San ZenónZusammenfassung
From the beginning, men have built spaces for their refuge, mainly through their own or inherited knowledge and with local materials available. Earthen architecture has been the basis of our culture. It is a representation of our history, it tells our art, material and craft. The development of this architecture has been presented as a popular construction with a common denominator: vernacular knowledge.
Vernacular architecture emerges from the hand of traditional knowledge that is inherited and complemented by knowledge acquired from experience.
These vernacular techniques, which are still used, represent not only a construction technique, but also allow us to know the cultural, constructive, and spatial identity of a community. Currently, the lack of appreciation of the traditional technique by various factors is generating a serious risk, its loss. This is not only when the production of houses with these techniques stops, but also when their use begins to be socially devalued.
Angostura, San Zenón is one of the areas that highlights this problem. In recent years, housing has been transformed, more precisely after the serious floods of 2010 due to the overflowing of the Magdalena River. These new buildings have developed a concept of status for the community and have brought in foreign constructive references and materials that have drastically changed the traditional housing system.
This ideal of progress has generated a devaluation of the traditional constructive technique of Angostura, because its inhabitants are leaving their constructive trade, their technique and materials; which directly affect their way of life and identity.
Undoubtedly it is a place in which several difficulties are evident, but it is also possible to appreciate its great potential, a united community that seeks to move forward and always overcome the difficulties, in which there is a technique and heritage trade, but has not yet been discovered, in a personal way is a heritage jewel not estimated, in which a study or analysis in their territory will be in favor of its inhabitants.
This is how this project aims to propose an alternative of vernacular housing updated to the new needs of the community, so that from the use and potentialization of the traditional housing system is achieved to give greater appreciation and sense of belonging to this technique and cover the qualitative deficit in traditional peasant housing.
