Angustikunth school of arts and crafts of bambooResumen
Abstract
The Coffee Cultural Landscape contains a huge natural diversity in which we can identify the Bamboo, especially the Guadua Angustifolia Kunth. This bamboo has been used in this landscape, as material of construction and many other things even before it was colonized by the Antioqueños. This bamboo has been a fundamental material in the conformation of the Coffee Cultural Landscape, because it takes a big part on quotidian life of people of the region. The craftsmanship of bamboo has been important on the creation of cities, that located on the steep mountains, needed to resist strong earthquakes. This construction of cities including the bamboo as material gave birth to the technique commonly known as bahareque.
The craftsmanship of bamboo has been dilapidated because new methods of construction are been applied in the territory. These new methods don’t have spatial richness and structural richness. This is why one of the solutions is to plan a rhizomatic chain of projects that helps save the values of bamboo, from the plantation until the creation un architectural pieces or crafts. One of the projects inside the rhizomatic chain is the School of Arts and Crafts of bamboo in Córdoba Quindío, meant to be an architectural project that helps transmit and save craftmanship of bamboo. As a social response the project helps the community to find an opportunity to learn the process and to create a job. Córdoba Quindío counts with a space called Craftsman’s Village that was made with resources of USAID after the earthquake of Armenia in 1999. This place never was appropriate by the local community, so it was abandoned. The idea is to contemplate the same place to design the School of Arts and Crafts of bamboo, valuing the Craftsman’s Village as a vestige, and using them as the principal Access of the project and also to give the opportunity of a space that can change, using it as a space o exposition. It is necessary to understand the process of the bamboo to reflect this inside the spaces that are going to be designed, and that these spaces respond to what is going to be done there. It is also important to have in mind the territory in which the project is going to be done, Reading and understanding the vegetation, topography, sun path and climate. This is why the spaces that are being designed are based on cultural languages, environmental, technological, social, economic, functional and morphological in order to have a dialogue between project and context. As a conclusion the project of the School of Arts and Crafts seeks the creation of spaces of craftsmanship that obeys to the process of bamboo so that with this it can help to save and transmit a job that has been dilapidated.
