Representations of the slave woman : freedom, memory and resistanceResumo
Abstract
This research thesis proposes a comparative reading between the Colombian novels "La Ceiba de la Memoria” (2007) by Roberto Burgos Cantor and “Afuera Crece un Mundo” (2017) by Adelaida Fernández Ochoa. Specifically, the analysis will focus on contrasting the representation of the female characters, the slaves Analia Tu-Bari and Nay de Gambia. Their voices, their world view, and ways of acting allow us to understand the struggle of black women in the midst of the slave and abolitionist processes, as well as the literary vindication of the historical novel with the women who in these works stand as subjects of discourse.
