Relationship between renewable and non renewable energy consumption with Colombian GDP growthrésumé
Abstrait
This study aims to explore the relationship between economic growth and the consumption of renewable and non-renewable energy, where it is important to specify that in this research it is not intended to establish any causal relationship. To achieve the goal of this study a vector error correction model (VECM) was constructed taking the period 1990 – 2015 into account. From the Johansen test, a cointegration relationship was found between GDP and the consumption of renewable and non-renewable energy consumption. Where, the VECM model shows a negative relationship in the long term between the consumption of renewable energy and economic growth, while non-renewable energy shows a positive relationship, however this is not statisticaly significant. Finally, through the impulse response functions, it was estimated the short-term dynamics in the face of a positive shock in renewable and non-renewable energy consumption, where it is possible to infer that both types of energy have a positive impact with economic growth in the short-term.
