The Theater of Turin, ex scribe theater : object of the heritage, object of disuse, object that is renewed and re-livesResumo
Abstract
The thesis stems from the desire to rediscover the value of the abandoned heritage within the historic center and, at the same time, create an opportunity for teaching the performing arts at university level.
The choice to attribute this new function to the building is due to the original character of the building itself. For many years the Scribe theater has been an avant-garde venue, hosting theatrical and musical companies within it. However, during the Second World War and after its partial destruction, the theater gradually deteriorated.
We therefore wanted to give it back its importance, not as a theater, but as a training place for future actors, directors and musicians.
This idea was not born to erase the memory of the theater, but rather to bring its original function back to its roots and therefore to training.
Furthermore, to validate our choice, we have had the opportunity to learn and understand what are the problems related to the world of university teaching, especially if we are talking about faculties such as DAMS (Discipline of the arts, music and entertainment) or CAM (Cinema , Arts of the Scene, Music and Media) of the University of Turin. The lack of adequate space and equipment has led to the predominantly theoretical structuring of the courses, leaving the individual practice of the practice to the initiative of the students.
This is why the former Scribe theater seemed to us to be the best place to design a new venue for these two courses, integrating a new building where the hall once was, in order to offer new spaces for the performance. teaching and raise it to much higher standards.
The choice of integrating a new building within the lot is due to the need for larger and more numerous spaces than the previous room could offer. After the intervention, the existing building would maintain its original function of welcoming guests, integrating the administrative and more "public" part of the University.
The new building, on the other hand, would be totally used for teaching and entertainment, especially on the ground floor.
The thesis is structured in three parts.
The first is dedicated to analysis, deepening the history and deterioration of the building and the characteristics of the place where it is located. The second part, on the other hand, explains why we have chosen a new function and what specific characteristics the environments must have for this particular type of teaching, choosing examples already made in the world in order to have a direct comparison.
The last part is mainly planning, where the development of the intervention project and the resulting result are described.
