Entomopathogenic nematodes as biocontrolators of the ovary fly and evaluation protocol in Trips, pests of the passion fruit cropZusammenfassung
Passiflora edulis is the species within the group of pasifloráceas cultivated in Colombia with greater importance at the national level and whose crops predominate in the Department of Tolima, given the climatic conditions, which allow its good development. Unfortunately this value has been negatively affected by the presence of pest insects. Among the insects with the greatest impact on passion fruit crops are Neohydatothrips signifer (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) and the ovary fly Dasiops inedulis (Diptera: Lonchaeinae). The management of both pests in Colombia, mainly focus on pesticide application strategies, which have generated a strong negative impact, not only at the environmental level, but also on the health of producers, since, in addition to presenting chemical residuality, they do not comply with the regulations of export of fruit. Therefore, alternatives are sought for the management of these pests, which are effective and do not generate adverse effects, within the strategies is biological control with entomopathogenic nematodes, since they have a wide range of hosts, generate mortality in a short time and do not affect the environment. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of entomopathogenic nematodes as biocontrolators of the ovary fly Dasiops inedulis and to develop a protocol to establish its control in Neohydatothrips signifer. For this, the plague of the study, was collected floral buttons and fruits of passion fruit obtained in the sidewalk La Meseta (Lebanon: Tolima). According to the pathogenicity in third instar larvae of Dasiops inedulis, the highest mortality rate was 40.76% for Steinernema feltiae (SCT125). For the evaluation of Neohydatothrips signifer, a standard operating protocol was developed, based on the literature found from the database of Pubmed, Proquest, ScienceDirect and the experience worked in the biological control laboratory, in order to describe a better evaluation methodology in this pest. According to the above, it is concluded that although there is control against the ovary fly, more studies are required to obtain a mortality rate that exceeds 50% in larvae of the ovary fly. On the other hand, it is necessary to evaluate the protocol of entomopathogenic nematodes in Neohydatothrips signifer.
