Determinants of the election of the government of Hugo Chavez in VenezuelaZusammenfassung
En este trabajo de investigación estudio las características macroeconómicas por las que pasan los países Latinoamericanos, tal como Venezuela, previas a elegir gobernantes de izquierda como Hugo Chavez. Para la metodología utilizada en el análisis de datos, se cree que la más adecuada debido a la escasez de datos del país, es “estudios transversales o de corte de tipo retrospectivo”.
Hay algunas características comunes entre países que han elegido presidentes de izquierda por lo tanto se quiso ver si hubo influencia de características como desempleo, pobreza, educación y desigualdad en la elección del gobierno de Hugo Chávez en Venezuela en 1998.
El tratamiento se realizó con 3 especificaciones de corte transversal, en cada una de ellas la variable dependiente fue el porcentaje de votos por Chávez en cada parroquia. Hay características de las parroquias que si se ven correlacionadas a la elección de Hugo Chávez como presidente de Venezuela en 1998 como: abastecimiento de agua, desempleo, tipo de vivienda y nivel de educación.
La conclusión y recomendación más importante es que hay mucho por hacer con respecto a este tema, esta investigación es un primer paso para entender el tema de los gobiernos de izquierda en países Latinoamericanos.

Abstrakt
For the development of the following research work, it was studied the macroeconomic characteristics that Latin American countries, such as Venezuela, go through prior to electing leftist governments like Hugo Chavez. For the methodology used in the data analysis, it is believed that the most appropriate due to the scarcity of data from the country, is "retrospective cross-sectional or cross-sectional studies."
There are some common characteristics between countries that have elected leftist governments; therefore, we wanted to see if there was influence of characteristics such as unemployment, poverty, education, and inequality in the election of the government of Hugo Chávez in Venezuela in 1998.
The treatment was carried out with 3 specifications of cross-section, in each one of them the dependent variable was percentage of votes for Chávez in each parish. There are characteristics of the individuals that have a correlation with the election, that were constant in each of the regressions, of Hugo Chávez as president of Venezuela in 1998, such as: Water supply, Unemployment, Type of housing and Level of education.
The most important conclusion and recommendation is that there is much to be done regarding this issue, this research is a first step for the issue of leftist governments in Latin American countries.
