Bioleaching of copper from printed circuit boards using acidophilic bacteriarésumé
Abstrait
Waste from Printed Circuit Boards PCBs have increased in recent years, they contain metallic copper which can be extracted in an eco-friendly way through the bioleaching of copper. Copper bioleaching is the process how acidophilic bacteria are used for the solubilization of copper from PCBs. This degree work evaluated the copper bioleaching of a bacterial culture from acid mining drainage (AMD) and the parameters that could be suitable for this process, through the selection of an enrichment culture with greater bioleaching potential according to its oxidation reduction potential (ORP), and a factorial design (DOE) to know the effect of the combination of 3 levels (high, medium and low) and 2 parameters , the initial concentration of PCBs and the initial concentration of iron (II). The pH and ORP were used as indicative of bioleaching, where the pH decreased and the ORP increased due to the action of the microorganisms. The initial concentration of PCBs had an effect on pH and ORP, the higher the initial concentration of PCBs, the higher the pH and the lower the ORP. The initial concentration of iron (II) did not have an effect on these parameters, but maybe in the possible solubilization of copper which was qualitatively evaluated by the greenish color presented by the treatments, the treatments with the highest initial concentration of iron (II) presented the greenish color in less time. After the 28 days of the test, all the treatments presented a greenish color, possible indicative of solubilization.
