Abstract
This work analyzes the role of Hollywood and its female stars through three literary works: "El beso de la mujer araña", "Pubis angelical" and "Diana o la cazadora solitaria". Through these novels by Manuel Puig and Carlos Fuentes, we study the implications of the Hollywood phenomenon from its beginnings to the processes of production, distribution and reception in Latin America. In the first place, it explores topics such as the star system, the arrival of cinema in Mexico and Argentina, the political relations between the United States and Latin American countries mediated by the film industry, among others. Secondly, it addressed the theme of the feminine in Hollywood and the relationship with the protagonists of the novels, considering aspects such as male gaze, feminine archetypes (punished women and femme fatale), the industry as an oppressive space and biographical aspects of Hedy Lamarr and Jean Seberg, the actresses who inspire some of the characters in the novels. Finally, it emphasizes the links between Hollywood and Latin America from popular and mass culture, the relationship with the social context of the 1960s and 1970s, especially with the Argentine dictatorship of 1976 and the Tlatelolco Massacre.
