Abstract
Dung beetles have been used as a bioindicator group of different kind of perturbations, but there are so few studies of the effects of the presence of a landfill on the ensamblage structure. It was selected a dry forest around the ladfill of the Santa Marta city and a control forest 6 km away. At each forest 3 transects was placed with 10 pitfall traps baited with pig excrement for 24 hours. There was three sampling times, with intervals of 24 hours. 881 individuals in 16 species of 6 genera where captured. The more abundant specie was Canthidium lituratus, the species with more biomass was Dichotomius belus. The richness, abundance, diversity and biomass were lowest in the landfill forest, than in the control forest, showing an important effect in the ensamblage structure and in the functionality of this group in the ecosystem. Six species were found exclusively for the control forest that could be used as bioindicator for this zone. Showing that this impact affects the ensamblage structure, it would be interesting give strategies of recuperation and long-term monitoring, knowing that dry forest in the country are in alert stage with a high vulnerability.
