Abstract
The type of this study is descriptive-exploratory, as its objective is the exploration of criteria that tell the rationality of different consumers of generation Y have, understanding rationality as social awareness when it comes to buying, and making a descriptive analysis out of it. Two semi-structured interviews where applied, the first in order to identify consumer habits taking in account the needs proposed by Max Neef(1993), and the second to enlarge that knowledge and inquire about the rationality, in terms of social awareness, of each person interviewed in the moment of buying. Initially ten people between eighteen and twenty-four years old, were picked by convenience to participate, and the first interview was applied to them. In the second interview the four subjects (out of the ten) that were considered as the ones that took in account more elements of criteria in the moment of buying, were picked.
