Abstract
This study of cases and controls describes the dietary intake of patients with MPS VI and the control group, belonging to subjects between 020 years of Bogota chosen for pairing such as age, gender of the study group, take part 48 subject, we applied the poll of reminder for the time of 24 hours three days (two weekdays and one weekend). Was performed statistical analysis to assess normality and parametric Student t test for samples paired and mean. We collected 24 patients with MPS VI and 24 for the control group: 57% were men and 43% women. 100% of patients with MPS VI presents with short stature and 91.3% of them are overweight or obese. The control group 100% are eutrophic. We present significant difference (p = ? 0.05) between the intake of protein, lipid and energy of the two groups, but in a smaller proportion of patients with MPS VI. Based in the intake of carbohydrate is not observed the significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.13), however the percentage of total caloric value of this macronutrient is greater for patients with MPS VI 54.2%. Regarding to the intake of micronutrient protrudes the sodium (p = 0.006), potassium (p = 0.002), niacin (p = 0.012) with significant differences from the control group, but with more association to disease. The food intake of patients with MPS VI is conditioned by the pathology, however the dietary requirement must be age adjusted to size, for not to overestimate the food intake and cause consequences in the health status of the patient.
