videojuego para ordenador World of Warcraft.
Abstract
The present dissertation comes from the growing necessity to comprehend the
notion of how virtual reality plays a significant role for the subject as an individual and as an
active member of a community, within the psychoanalytical theoretical framework. Initially,
the understanding of virtuality will be explored as a phenomenon itself, understood from an
internet and videogames context. Afterwards, the underlying psychoanalytic theories on
which the investigation is based on are introduced and developed, in order to later proceed
with a case study about the World of Warcraft computer game. Finally, a triangulation
between the theory, the case study, and the author's own impressions will take place, in order
to establish conclusions concerning where the importance of the virtual lies in the self, as
well as raise questions about the possible future of virtual reality regarding psychoanalysis.
