El mestizaje y su relación con la historia eclesiástica del Nuevo Reino de Granada en el siglo XVI, ha sido un tema que ha recobrado un interés en la disciplina histórica. La presente investigación busca analizar ambos fenómenos desde una perspectiva microhistórica entre 1564 y 1590. A través de la trayectoria de vida de Andrés Romero, primer clérigo mestizo del territorio (1565) se comprenderá el mestizaje como un fenómeno flexible y ambiguo, del que depende el contexto en el que se enunciaba al mestizo, más no quién era el mestizo. De igual forma, se pretende ubicar el lugar de este individuo en la historia eclesiástica de la región, preguntándonos cuál fue su influencia en los dos primeros arzobispados del Nuevo Reino de Granada en términos de la evangelización del territorio. Debido a las respuestas que esta historia de vida nos puede dar, proponemos una nueva metodología para analizar el mestizaje y repensar la historia de la Iglesia en el mundo colonial.
Abstract
The miscegenation and its relationship with the ecclesiastical history of the New Kingdom of Granada in the sixteenth century, has been a theme that has regained an interest in historical discipline. The present investigation seeks to analyze both phenomena from a microhistorical perspective between 1564 and 1590. Through the life trajectory of Andrés Romero, first mestizo clergyman of the territory (1565) miscegenation will be understood as a flexible and ambiguous phenomenon, on which depends the context in which the mestizo was enunciated, but not who was the mestizo. In the same way, we try to locate the place of this individual in the ecclesiastical history of the region, asking ourselves what was his influence in the first two archbishoprics of the New Kingdom of Granada in terms of the evangelization of the territory. Due to the answers that this life story can give us, we propose a new methodology to analyze miscegenation and rethink the history of the Church in the colonial world.
