Resumen
El presente trabajo analiza la serie de tapices Historia del Rey, como una muestra de la representación de poder del monarca francés Luis XIV. Hábilmente, el rey y sus ministros se apropiaron de la cultura material de su tiempo para engrandecer el nombre del Rey Sol y demostrarle a los gobernantes del momento la magnificencia de Luis. Sin duda, Charles Le Brun, el primer pintor real y director de la Manufactura Real de los Gobelinos, logró plasmar en esta serie de tapices, los eventos más notables del reinado de Luis. Esta producción impactó a los monarcas del siglo XVII, provocando que algunos quisieran imitar el diseño de esta obra de arte y así apropiarse de esta nueva forma de representación del poder, por cuanto es un elemento decorativo cargado de significado y a la vez, el relato de un reinado que pretende dejar su huella para la posteridad.
Abstract
The present work analyzes the series of tapestries History of the King, like a sample of the representation of power of the French monarch Louis XIV. Skillfully, the king and his ministers appropriated the material culture of their time to magnify the name of the Sun King and show the rulers of the moment the magnificence of Louis. Undoubtedly, Charles Le Brun, the first royal painter and director of the Gobelins Manufactory, managed to capture in this series of tapestries, the most notable events of Louis' reign. This production impacted the monarchs of the seventeenth century, causing some of them to imitate the design of this work of art and thus appropriate this new form of representation of power, as it is a decorative element loaded with meaning and at the same time, the story of a reign that aims to leave its mark for posterity.
