Abstract
The adaptive immune system works to maintain the coherence between an organism and its environment by generating a specific response to a different kind of peptides through the interaction of MHC-TCR. This adaptive system is known for appearing only in Gnathostomata, however, its mechanisms of evolution are still not clear. Because of this, comparative immunology has begun to evaluate different taxa, searching for remarkable changes within this system that allows hypothesizing about its evolution. Consequently, this review aims to describe possible functional changes that have occurred between chondrocytes and mammals, in their immune system, by the evolutionary change in MHC and TCR. For this purpose, structural and functional comparisons were carried out. As a result, a high structural similarity was established, while functional differences stand out, due to, positive selection and evolutionary convergence.
