Abstrait
Currently, Colombia, with a view to increasing logistics competitiveness, has developed the
Intermodal Transport Master Plan to strengthen the infrastructure of all types of cargo
mobility and improve the efficiency of the flow of goods throughout the national territory. In
order to achieve a higher score according to the index of global logistics competitiveness, the
construction of a railway for the mobilization of goods is proposed. Through a qualitative
study on the variables that must be considered for the design of a general cargo railway, the
iron corridor is selected and the loading and unloading points are determined, considering that
they were the only municipalities with large companies.
To measure the performance of the proposal, the economic concept of the investment was
taken into account, which was developed in two parts: construction and operation to obtain an
initial investment and the value of the operation during the first 5 years. In addition, the
environmental benefits represented by the railway to establish its viability and determine the
benefit in a comparative manner with the methods currently used for the transport of goods
were taken into account. With the results, it was possible to show many advantages of the
development of the project and the growth of the country, generating new possibilities to
interconnect the country and generate a contribution to its economy.
