Incidence of judicial journalism in the legitimation of punitive populismResumen
Abstract
The murders of Rosa Elvira Cely, Genesis Rua, the artist Legarda and the attack on Natalia Ponce gave way to this analysis that invites the reader to ask if four Colombian media generated in their readers generalized perceptions such as social indignation, the inefficiency of the criminal law and the police institution; which could be translated into joint fears of criminality and an apparent prevailing insecurity.
For this reason, it is important to emphasize the socio-legal relevance of punitive populism in order to understand the structural reasons that limit or reject this phenomenon, thus transmitting the criticism of the social impact left by a relationship between judicial journalism and political subjects that appeal to this phenomenon in order to give greater favorability to its image.
Finally, this research allows for a debate on the impact of judicial journalism on Colombian and Latin American social dynamics. At the same time, in the text there are different questions about the work done by four newspapers in Colombia in the cases mentioned above.
