Título en inglés
A marginal case within Science Fiction. Doris Lessing's Shikasta.
Abstract
Shikasta, which means broken in Persian, is the title that Doris Lessing assigned to her first Science Fiction book, within a series of 5 books called "Canopus in Argos: Archives". Shikasta is the millennial history of humanity. It was a novel written by the eleventh woman to win the Nobel Prize for literature in 2007 with her book The Golden Notebook.
This research tried to understand why Lessing ventured into Science Fiction, a field scorned by the canon. In first place, the author's context was inquired her influences and intellectual concerns. Secondly, the structure of Shikasta was recognized and addressed in order to analyze its narratives and the references to which they were referred. Then the science fiction genre was defined, the concerns that addressed the genre and the place where a work like Shikasta could be registered. Finally, some possible reasons were found that motivated the writer to enter into Science Fiction, specifically Shikasta.
