Autobiografía y método teológico en J.H. Newman

La investigación emprendida aborda las relaciones entre la narrativa autobiográfica y el método teológico en la obra de J. H. Newman. El acercamiento a la Apologia pro Vita Sua, acerca de la historia de sus ideas religiosas, parece beneficiarse de esta perspectiva y permite elucidar todo un itinerario intelectual de alto rango en el marco de la teología más tradicional, revelando un método orgánico, mesurado y abierto, ahora al servicio de una decisión vital con graves consecuencias. De este modo, se verá que la teología de Newman es, básicamente, la narración inteligente de la obra divina en él mismo, expresada en términos válidos para toda experiencia religiosa auténtica. Su autobiografía es, así, la exposición cuidadosa de las tareas que un teólogo debe asumir, una y otra vez, en la amorosa dedicación a su ciencia como vocación y a la búsqueda incesante e incondicional de la voluntad divina.

Abstract

This research addresses the relationships between the autobiographical narrative and the theological method in the work of J. H. Newman. The approach to the Apologia pro Vita Sua, about the development of his religious ideas, seems to benefit from this perspective and allows us to recognize a whole high-ranking intellectual itinerary within the framework of the most traditional theology, revealing an organic, measured and open method at the service of a vital decision with serious consequences. So, it will be seen that Newman's theology is, basically, the skillful narration of the divine work in himself, expressed in some valid terms for any authentic religious experience. His autobiography is, thus, the careful exposition of the tasks that a theologian must assume, over and over again, in the loving dedication to his science as a vocation and to the incessant and unconditional search for divine will.
