We resist for the paramo : peasants opposed extractivism, San Bernardo, SumapazResumo
Abstract
The peasants of Sumapaz are known for their persistence in defending the territory and their way of life. For this reason they have been protagonists in the peasant manifestation and organization since the 1810s, as authors such as Catherine Le Grand shows. In this document we wanted to contribute to history for the defense of the Páramo, reviewing the role of a new agent: extractivism. The desire to extract oil in the Sumapaz Páramo, the biggest páramo in the world, reawakened the need for organization of Sumapaceños peasants, although this is not the only reason. This document studies whether the configuration of the peasant organization in this new moment in history can be related to a New Social Movement. For this, the qualitative methodology and Participant Observation was used, and the semi-structured interview was used as a data collection tool. Finally, the information was systematized to respond to the objective of the thesis.
