Challenges presented by Catalan secessionism to the Spanish StateZusammenfassung
With the signing of the Treaty of Westphalia, the idea of the nation-state was born in Europe and, since then, it has consolidated as the hegemonic actor in international relations, managing to permeate all interactions in the international arena. However, the will of the nations that existed before the formation of the States, have the tireless idea of building an independent State whose political borders finally coincide with the cultural and historical ties of the nation, which ended up threatening "from below." to the State, eroding its power and centrality. Meanwhile, the higher entity use of all the resources that it has within its reach to prevent one or more regions from breaking away and forming their own political entity, this creates a continuous struggle to achieve an objective that is necessarily exclusive since if Catalonia separates, Spain will have lost power, on the other hand, if Spain remains united, Catalonia will have renounced its objective of achieving independence.
