French musical impressionism and Ravel's Sonatina : interpretive considerations based on recordings by Alicia de Larrocha and Martha ArgerichResumen
Abstract
Throughout history, many ways of understanding music have emerged, determined by the political, social and cultural contexts of a certain time. In my career as a classical pianist, I have immersed myself in different eras, genres and musical styles that have allowed me to see through musical discourse a representation of the evolutionary process that human beings have had in society. With this project I decided to delve into French music from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, since it is there that there is a point of break between the way of understanding and conceiving music. What begins to stand out in this style is not so much a narrative discourse, but the landscape and the atmosphere that is generated through elements such as timbre and color. I try to understand how these musical elements are used, making a contextualization of the artistic movement that predominates at the time and that marked new stylistic trends in musical interpretation. This in order to delve into Ravel's Sonatina through a musical analysis focused mainly on interpretive aspects such as phrasing, articulations and tempo, result of comparing two different versions of the first movement of the piece.
