Abstract
Slotting is the strategic location of products in a warehouse, with a good structure his proposal is minimizing travel
times, material handling and maximizing the space available for picking. Opperar Colombia S.A.S. is in charge of
the terrestrial distribution of different products of Grupo Nutresa to different clients throughout Bogotá. In Opperar
Colombia, the locations available for picking are overcrowded with the different products, since the last
redistribution of the plant to locate the picking products, new products have arrived at the distribution center, these
new products have not been assigned to a specific location through slotting, therefore the outdated one generates
inconsistencies that are reflected in the flow / path of an operator when picking. This generates traffic in the hallways
with the most demanded products, which for Opperar Colombia are 1, 2, and 3, as well as delays in picking and
subsequent enlistment. By means of the construction of logistic profiles of the existing products in the distribution
center, and the programming of a heuristic, an adequate slotting will be developed that allows maximizing the
locations available for picking on the racks. It is expected to develop the updated slotting that indicates the location
fraction and the number of locationsthat each product should get assignedin the warehouse in the picking area. The
implementation of the algorithm provides a solution that reduces picking times, this is evident in Opperar as the
total distance traveled was reduced by 5,57%. On the other hand, the simulation of the picking got an improvement
on picking times which were reduced by 9,2%.
