Analysis of the relationship between foreign direct investment flows and productivity on manufacturing firms in Colombia for the period 2015 - 2018Zusammenfassung
The foreign direct investment (FDI) theoretically and empirically has been related with the productivity increase of the domestic industries through the “productivity spillovers”, especially in manufacturing firms, derived from the interchange of technology, research and development which have gone through borders in the last three decades. For this reason, this paper will deal the different kinds of spillovers generated by transnational companies (TCN) simultaneously, and their value added is the granularity of the data used, given by the construction of input- product links, with the main objective to determine the effects over domestic firms in the term between 2015-2018.
The granularity of the information concludes that there is positive and significant evidence of backward intra-industry linkages. This information contrasts with the previous literature, due to the formers results for these kinds of linkage were not conclusive and even negatives. The previous information shows that the positive results of this study, up to now, were overshadowed by higher levels of aggregation, different from those used in this estimation based on the detail and granularity of the basket of products and raw materials of each manufacturing establishment. Positive and significant evidence was also found for backward inter-industry linkages in congruence with the results of Kugler (2005) and significant negative evidence for forward inter-industry linkages, which agrees with the results presented by Smarzynska (2004). Finally, forward intra-industry linkages were not significant.
