Between instants and fragments: A gomezdavilian reading of timeSommario

The question of time has been characterized as one of the most enigmatic questions and the one with the greatest complexity when approached. The various definitions that have occurred throughout the history of thought have only given specific time strata whose common element is to conceive an apprehensible time within numerological systems, narratives and bloodless calendars. Now, although the central axis on which this research is structured is time, the reader will not find an absolute answer to the question of what is time ?, much less, will find a meticulous catalog in which they are consigned and analyze each and every one of the definitions that have been developed throughout history. Instead, all the interest will be concentrated in tracing and examining the concept of time throughout the work of Gómez Dávila, in order to point out that, according to the position of the Bogotano, time is the man himself. Well, Gómez Dávila understands that the definition in abstract terms that reifies the conception of time and conceives it as a physical phenomenon external to the subject or to the consciousness that perceives, ends up being a mere conceptual resource from which man explains the enigma of time, however, is not time. Rather, time makes sense from its internal experience, which is conceived as the process of realization of a life, the substance of which it is made, so that, by increasing the possibility of being, man does not he finds himself in time, but is himself time.
