Design of a training system by means of a "Serious Game" and VR of the laboratory of machines and equipment of the Pontificia Universidad JaverianaResumo
hardware HTC VIVE PRO.
Abstract
The development of technologies created from Industry 4.0 has provided alternatives in the representation of virtual environments, learning processes and training. One of its tools is virtual reality (VR), which enables access to any environment and eliminates the risks of exposure to the environment. In response to the current situation presented by Covid-19 and the need to develop a virtual laboratory replicating real conditions, in which students are trained to use laboratory machines without any risk or limitation, the present project is proposed. The objective is to design a training system by means of a VR application, such as a Serious Game, in the laboratory of machines and equipment (currently called physical processes) of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana for students of Industrial Engineering.Regarding the development of the established objective, the first step was to determine how the practice is currently carried out in order to have a starting point. After documenting the process, the equipment to be digitized was determined, considering key criteria of the project and based on those provided by ISO 25010. According to the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, the Unity 3D software and HTC VIVE PRO hardware were chosen. With the equipment to be digitized selected, the first step to build the VR (Serious Game) environment was to model in 3D the machines, equipment and environment of the practice. Then, three scenes were made: a tutorial, a scene with all the parts of the machines and one where you interact with the objects. This Serious Game was applied to a sample of 32 people who were taking the course at that time and who were tested before and after using it.The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program was used for the analysis of the information collected, in which Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) normality tests, a McNemar test, a T-test for independent samples and an experimental factorial design with 2 factors each with 2 levels were developed. In addition to the statistical results, the perception of the participants and subject matter experts was taken into account to determine the impact of the project. It was concluded that the application of the Serious Game improves the average number of correct answers of the student in the designed questionnaire, which indicates that it is a good tool to complement the classroom laboratory of physical processes. Finally, with respect to the requirements of the ISO 25010 standard, the score of the sample was above 9 points on a scale of 10, which suggests that the objectives were met.
