Design of an audiobook prototype for training in the business sectorResumen
conectado a Internet.
Abstract
The technological advances of our time have allowed learning methods to change, this has influenced different spaces such as training for company employees, where technological tools such as audiobooks have not been studied in depth. When training the human talent of organizations, financial investments must be made, in time, transportation, trainers, among others, and the desired results in employee learning are not always obtained. That is why a company with a specific need for training was sought that would allow them to propose, through a mixed method, the design and preparation of chapters of an audiobook, taking into account variables such as the menu and interactivity. Thus, in Movii, soft skills training was proposed by designing an audiobook prototype that included interactivity and menu factors and that allowed studying how this affect desertion and the level of learning of the participants in the research.
The experiment was conducted in three stages: (1) non-experimental research, (2) experimental research for "pure" experiments, and (3) test research. The first stage (1) was divided into four steps: (a) empirical research in which a background review was made in the scientific literature, (b) qualitative research in which in-depth interviews were carried out, an instrument that was verifying with a Cronbach's Alpha test to establish research axes and build the QFD with the design requirements, (c) quantitative research and (d) first phase of the experiment Pre-Test Post-Test to identify the level of initial knowledge and end of the participants. In the second stage (2), three steps were performed: a) Univariate analysis,
b) Correlational analysis, and c) Survival analysis. Finally, in the third stage (3), the second phase of the Pre-Test Post-Test experiment was carried out after 10 days in order to measure learning.
The process of creating the prototype began with the identification of the topic, leadership, which was worked on through the book "The 48 Laws of Power". Subsequently, the chapters were written and reviewed to later be recorded by a professional announcer, guaranteeing optimal sound quality. At the end of the recordings, the web page was designed in WIX in which the chapters would be published by groups according to the treatments defined in the factorial design. The quality of the web page was measured through performance tests and the access links were reviewed, ensuring smooth access to the audiobook chapters on the platform. With a proposed schedule of four weeks and the previous steps, the training began.
The performance requirements achieved were a learning level with a mean (M=91.6) higher than (M=90.46) reported by García et al., (2020), the minimum required audio quality was met, and the prototype was published in WIX which ensures easy access to collaborators. The verifiable standard restrictions of the design were a) The experience and quality of the speaker selected for the recording of the audiobook, this was verified by hiring a sound engineer with previous experience in making voiceovers for audiobooks and editing content. (b) The time available for the design and development of the audiobook, for this restriction a retrospective schedule was made in order to agree with Movii all the stages of the investigation. (c) The copyright of the training topic information. The respective credits (name of the book and the author) were given to the content of the audiobook, thus complying with copyright regulations. (d) The freedom of the participants to withdraw from the study at any stage, since it was not a mandatory participation by the company. It was made clear from the enrollment stage that the training was voluntary, and they could withdraw at any time through informed consent. (e) The number of participants for a 2x2 table, power of 0.7 and small magnitude (w2 = 0.01). (f) The ability of the participants in the use of technological tools, which was ensured by creating an intuitive platform that they could access from any device
connected to the Internet. Finally, the results obtained allow us to conclude that the most important requirements in the design of an audiobook for Movii workers are the legibility of the letter in the text to be read and the typography. All the collaborators had an increase in their learning level of approximately 10.45 points comparing the means of the Pre-Test and Post-Test scores, being the group that had the treatment without menu and with interactivity the one that obtained a greater learning (M= 49.5). It was also found that the week with the lowest dropout was the first and the week with the highest dropout was the second. In addition, the specifications with which this prototype was built reduced costs compared to face- to-face training by 75%.
