Implementation of a community nursery as an environmental education strategy. Case study of the peasant group "Raíces de mi Tierra" in the village of San Gerardo (municipality of San Lorenzo, Nariño)Resumen
Este trabajo busca compartir los resultados obtenidos del proceso de acompañamiento al proyecto de implementación de un vivero comunitario como una estrategia de educación ambiental en convenio con la fundación Suyusama (Obra de la Compañía de Jesús) y el grupo campesino “Raíces de mi Tierra” ubicado en la vereda de San Gerardo, en el municipio de San Lorenzo, departamento de Nariño. Las implementación de estrategias de educación ambiental se han vuelto fundamentales para dar respuesta a la alta pérdida de biodiversidad, transformación de los ecosistemas y la pérdida de conocimientos tradicionales en la vereda. Asimismo este tipo de estrategias se han vuelto necesarias para promover el mantenimiento y reproducción de especies que han permitido garantizar la seguridad alimentaria de las familias del grupo Raíces de mi Tierra y a su vez, para crear un intercambio de aprendizajes para la resolución de los desafíos ambientales actuales.
A través del análisis del proyecto del vivero comunitario, esta investigación buscó analizar la trayectoria organizativa del grupo Raíces de mi Tierra y buscó también caracterizar de manera socioambiental los beneficios obtenidos tras su implementación. Finalmente se pudo demostrar que efectivamente la implementación del vivero ha funcionado como una estrategia de educación ambiental en la vereda y esto a su vez, ha permitido el fortalecimiento de procesos organizativos del grupo Raíces de mi Tierra.
Abstract
This paper seeks to share the results obtained from the process of accompanying the implementation of a community nursery as a strategy for environmental education and ecological restoration in agreement with the Suyusama Foundation (Work of the Society of Jesus) and the peasant group "Raíces de mi Tierra" located in the village of San Gerardo, in the municipality of San Lorenzo, department of Nariño. The implementation of environmental education strategies have become fundamental to respond to the high loss of biodiversity, the transformation of ecosystems and the loss of traditional knowledge in the village. Likewise, these types of strategies have become necessary to promote the maintenance and reproduction of species that have allowed guaranteeing food security for the families of the Raíces de mi Tierra group and, at the same time, to create an exchange of learning for the resolution of current environmental challenges.
Through the analysis of the community nursery project, this research sought to analyze the organizational trajectory of the Raíces de mi Tierra group and also sought to characterize in a socio-environmental way the benefits obtained after its implementation. Finally, it was possible to demonstrate that the implementation of the nursery has indeed worked as a strategy for environmental education in the village and this, in turn, has allowed the strengthening of the organizational processes of the Raíces de mi Tierra group.
