Evaluation of the antimicrobial capacity of Pelargonium graveolens extracts using the plates and wells methodResumen
Abstract
In the present study, the antimicrobial capacity of Pelargonium graveolens extracts was evaluated against five microorganisms: Candida albicans, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Bacillus subtilis. The evaluation was carried out using the plate and well method, with six extracts and three different concentrations of each. The results were favorable regarding the antimicrobial activity of the extracts, since there was activity in all of them. The extract that presented the highest percentage of inhibition recorded against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans, was the oil; while for Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus subtilis, the extract that presented the highest percentage of inhibition was acetonitrile.
