Los presagios indígenas sobre la conquista de América en las crónicas del siglo XVI

Las profecías, agüeros y predicciones de la Conquista en el ámbito indígena ocupan un lugar muy importante en las crónicas de las Indias del siglo XVI. Relatos sobre estas historias de alguna forma aparecen en las fuentes escritas por autores de diferente origen (españoles, mestizos e indios) en todo el territorio de América Latina, desde las islas del Caribe hasta los grandes imperios, azteca e inca. El análisis detallado de estos presagios sacan a luz las nociones de la historia de los autores y el lugar que ocupan los conquistadores y los indígenas en ella, permiten ver estrategias de legitimación de poder, de resistencia y adaptación al nuevo mundo que se estableció con la conquista.

Abstract

The prophecies, omens and predictions of the Conquest in the indigenous world occupy a very important place in the chronicles of the Indies of the 16th century. These type of stories in one way or another appear in sources written by authors of different origins (Spanish, mestizo and Indian) throughout the territory of Latin America, from the Caribbean islands to the great empires, the Aztec and Inca. The detailed analysis of these predictions brings to light the notions of history of the authors and the role of the conquerors and the indigenous people in the historical process, and allows us to see strategies of legitimization of power, resistance and adaptation to the new world that came with the conquest.
