English Title
Another kind of freedom: assessing poverty traps in rural Colombia between 2010 and 2016Resumen
This paper presents an empirical analysis based on asset holdings about poverty traps from rural
Colombia. I show that, in the sample, persistent poverty were more than 40 %. Seeking the reasons
behind this I estimate asset returns, asset dynamic and income dynamic based on their theorical
definitions. According to this it was found that rural Colombians households faced between 2010
and 2016: Nonconvexities in asset returns for the poorest and increase returns for the richest, low
asset holdings in multiple equilibria dynamic of assets and low stochastic income equilibriums.
Going deeper in the relevance of this results we found that poorest households experimented low
consumption smoothing, high variation in their consumption and lower income risk, as well as lower
growth in their income compared with no poor households.
