QAnon es una comunidad lingüística que surgió en un foro online en el 2017, durante el primer año de la presidencia de Donald Trump, en un contexto mundial de creciente polarización y extremismo, que se veía reflejado en el retroceso de las democracias y el auge del totalitarismo a nivel global. Por medio de mensajes crípticos, conocidos como Q drops, Q, un narrador de historias, comenzó a hacer predicciones sobre los cambios políticos y sociales que se avecinaban en Estados Unidos y en el resto del mundo. A medida que se iba desarrollando la narración, los Anons, demás integrantes de QAnon, hacían sus propias interpretaciones y la movían a través de temporalidades y moralidades específicas, haciéndola maleable y permitiendo cambios en los regímenes lingüísticos bajo los cuales se regía.
Poniendo a la lingüística en el centro del proyecto, la presente investigación buscará establecer cómo las interacciones lingüísticas de los integrantes de QAnon construyen narraciones predictivas, órdenes e invitaciones sobre el Estado y la democracia estadounidense que a su vez cuestionan al orden liberal internacional, evidenciando su crisis actual. Por medio de una etnografía para el internet, se analizarán las oposiciones verdad/mentira y luz/oscuridad, entre otras, así como los cronotopos que construyen y moldean la narrativa de QAnon a lo largo de los años.
Abstract
QAnon is a linguistic community which appeared in an online forum in 2017, during the first year of Donald Trump’s presidency, in worldwide context of increasing polarization and extremism, reflected in the setback of democracies and rise of totalitarianism on a global level. Through cryptic messages, known as Q drops, Q, a storyteller, began to make predictions on the political and social changes that approached in the United States and the rest of the world. As the narration developed, Anons, the other members of QAnon, made their own interpretations and moved it across specific temporalities and moralities, making it malleable and allowing changes in the linguistic regimes under which it was regulated.
Putting linguistics in the center of the project, the present investigation will seek to establish how the linguistic interactions of the QAnon members build predictive narrations, orders and invitations about the American State and democracy, which in turn questions the international liberal order, demonstrating its current crisis. By means of an ethnography for the internet, the truth/lie and light/darkness oppositions, among others, as well as the chronotopes that build and shape QAnon’s narrative through the years will be analyzed.
