Los años de 1499 a 1502 comprenden para la historia colombiana el inicio de la configuración del territorio, toda vez que en el último año del siglo XV se da la primera exploración sobre la costa de la actual Guajira y se da bautizo al Cabo de la Vela por parte de Alonso de Ojeda. Posteriormente sobre 1501 y hasta 1502, Rodrigo de Bastidas avanzará desde el Cabo de la Vela hasta el Golfo de Urabá, para suceder una serie de encuentros humanos entre europeos y nativos, y de exploraciones geográficas. Estos hechos quedarán plasmados en una de las herramientas políticas más poderosas del siglo XVI, la cartografía, en donde Juan de la Cosa será transversal en todo el proceso que va de 1499 a 1502, e incluso unos años a posteriori.
Abstract
The years from 1499 to 1502 comprised for Colombian history the beginning of the configuration of the territory, since in the last year of the 15th century the first exploration took place on the coast of present-day Guajira and Cabo de la Vela was baptized by Alonso de Ojeda. Laterally around 1501 and up to 1502, Rodrigo de Bastidas will advance from Cabo de la Vela to the Gulf of Urabá, to take place a series of human encounters between Europeans and natives, and geographical explorations. These facts will be reflected in one of the most powerful political tools of the 16th century, cartography, where Juan de la Cosa will be transversal throughout the process that goes from 1499 to 1502, and even a few years later.
