Abstract
This research draws from the analysis of the historian's techniques focusing on the relationship between the linguistic character of historv , and its understanding of the concept of time. Qn the one hand, even when accepting the linguistic character of history, it is not accurate to assert that history is a particular kind of language. Qn the other hand from the conceptualization of historical time, the idea of history as a science of the past becomes unacceptable. To articulate the terms in which this problern can be understood, this study comments on the work of Walter Benjamin. It starts with Benjamin's understanding of language as a pure mean of meaning, delves into the determination of the various relationships between men and language, then expounds on the concept of origin, and ends with the construction of historical time and the figure of the materialist historian from both, a dialectic and a messianic perspectives. Despite this study's interest in comprehending the craft of history, the conclusions drawn from this research should not only be thought for historians since an enunciation of the point of view of history which supposes a new and particular relationship with reality liberates ari ethical and political domain.
