Abstract
Objective: To publish the experiences of HIV diagnosis of senior adults. Resources and Methodology: A qualitative Health study was completed with 5 senior adults with the ball of snow technique. A semi-structured interview was conducted as a tool for collecting data in meetings with each of the senior adults. Results: The research analysis was achieved by translating the recorded audio to a written version in an orderly manner, sequential, and with the complete information provided by all the interviewees. It should be noted that the interviews took 45 minutes to complete and two hours to have them translated to a written version. Then the written interviews were organized taking into account the stated objectives (feelings, thoughts, behaviors, social support and the care given by health professionals towards them) for the time before of the diagnostics and during the time of the HIV virus. Conclusions: The testimonies given by the senior adults tell the progressive story of the time before HIV contagion, the diagnosis, and now. It was identified through the voice of the participants that is relevant to inform that feelings, thoughts and behaviors can change according to the progression of time, unlike, social support where it became evident that maintaining secrecy would retain social relationships untouched. Finally it is important to note that the given care by the health professional on the time before, during the diagnosis, and now changes due to social stigma.
