Abstract
"This work presents a review of the ethical position of Arthur Schopenhauer, showing its articulation with the unique thinking deployed by the philosopher in the two volumes of his major work, The World as Will and Representation, while noting the closeness of his ethical postulates and the central ideas of the oriental wisdom present in the teachings of Buddha. The reading of Schopenhauer's ethics is performed following the path of the awakening through the recognition of the Latin maxim: ""Neminem laede, imo omnes, quantum pots, juva"" (Injure no one, on the contrary, help everyone as much as you can) and the examination of the ""tat twam asi"" and the virtues of compassion, justice and charity as fundamental elements of a non-prescriptive but descriptive ethics, that recognizes the true essence of existence. The Ethic will be the gateway of man towards the liberation from suffering that haunts him and keeps him isolated and at war with the others, humans or animals. This analysis is carried out following the fundamental texts of Schopenhauer on ethics, as well as his attitude towards the philosophical tradition, and the role that religions, with an optimistic view of the world, have played in men s configuration of ethics along history."
