Abstract
Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and Feline Leukemia Virus (FIV, FLV), are retroviruses that produce very similar diseases in cats around the world, that finish with the animal death. In Colombia there are not exist epidemiologic reports of these infections, and the data are insuficient to determinate the coinfeccition in the same animal. In order to know wich is the prevalence of these diseases and the coinfection in clinically sick cats, it has been made this descriptive and restrospective research, evaluating 403 sera from diseased animals, who were detected the presence of FIV antibodies and/ or FLV p27 antigen with inmunochromatography test. The results showed that 99 cats were positive to one of two deseases (FIV or FLV), 53 cats (13,1%) were positive to FLV and 46 cats (11,4%) FIV positive, meanwhile 11 cats (2,7%) were coinfected with both viruses. It was determinated that crossbreed is a risck factor to developing both infections and ewn the coinfection Regarding the age, the cats were divided in older and younger that two years. Finding that this is a risk factor to FLV but not for FIV. The gender only to FLV show a significant results, and male cats are the most infected.
