Abstract
Nowadays, plastic bags consumption in Colombia has been considerably reduced due to two main facts: on the one hand, the greater use of reusable bags and on the other hand, the fee supermarkets charge for the plastic bags usage. However, when buying particularly fruits and vegetables in supermarkets and mini markets where the food is in bulks, people tend to pack them in plastic bags presented in rolls and take the bags they consider necessary not only to weigh the food, but also to take them to their home.
Keeping in mind that the life cycle of a plastic bag is on average 20 minutes and it takes 500 years to disintegrate (El Universal, 2017), the following study proposed the creation of a hand-made reusable bag. The reusable bag attends to: i) Permits the breathing of fruits and vegetables, ii) be easy to carry, wash, and use more than one time, and iii) follows the food technical requirements and health standards. The main goal of this thesis is to contribute reducing the unreasonable usage of plastic bags.
