Resumen
Pensar la vejez y convertirse en viejo siempre ha despertado cierta inquietud, por lo cual a lo largo de la historia, se han buscado diferentes maneras de comprenderla y vivirla. Sin embargo, en la época actual, en la que impera la técnica, la vejez se ha convertido en un grave problema debido a que no produce ni rinde igual a como lo solía hacer en la juventud. Así se han postulado diferentes soluciones a este mal llamado problema. Estas soluciones van desde retrasar y disimular médicamente los procesos de envejecimiento, hasta postular el exterminio de los viejos. Ante este panorama desolador, se hace urgente el quehacer filosófico, pues a través de éste, es posible descubrir y pensar otros horizontes de la constitución humana que van mucho más allá del cuerpo y su decaimiento. Usar la filosofía para acercarse y comprender el proceso de envejecimiento, para acogerlo con afabilidad y reconocer en la vejez su sentido y valor, hará que esta etapa de la vida no sea tediosa, sino grata. Entonces, la filosofía permite la comprensión de esta etapa de la vida, facilita el duelo y la despedida de las etapas anteriores, y permite un encuentro afable con proceso del deshacimiento de la vida y el encuentro final con la muerte.
Abstract
Thinking about old age and becoming old has always aroused some concern, which is why, throughout history, different ways of understanding and living it have been sought. However, in the current era, in which technology prevails, old age has become a serious problem because it does not produce or yield the same as it used to in youth. Thus, different solutions to this so-called problem have been postulated. These solutions range from delaying and medically disguising the aging process, to postulating the extermination of the old ones. Faced with this bleak panorama, the philosophical task becomes urgent, because through it, it is possible to discover and think about other horizons of the human constitution that go far beyond the body and its decay. Using philosophy to approach and understand the aging process, to welcome it with affability and to recognize in old age its meaning and value, will make this stage of life not tedious, but pleasant. Then, philosophy allows the understanding of this stage of life, facilitates the mourning and the farewell of the previous stages, and allows an affable meeting with the process of the undoing of life and the final encounter with death.
